Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis)

Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis)

Medium sized songbird - a small thrush

Bright blue underparts
Orange-red throat, breast and sides
White belly and undertail
Thin bill

Easily confused with other Bluebirds especially Western Bluebird. Eastern Bluebirds have orange-red throats, Western Bluebirds have Blue throats. Mountain Bluebirds have no reddish coloration on their underparts.

Becoming less common in the East, the competition for nest sites by Starlings and House Sparrows is a likely cause. Also pesticides and recent severe winters
