A large thrush. The most familiar and widespread North American bird. Considered a harbinger of spring in northern USA. Population is stable and increasing. Back and Wings grey Breast and underparts brownish, brick red Dark head, white eye crescents Thin yellow bill, maybe darker in summer Throat white with black streaks Lower belly and undertail white Grey tail
Female is paler Winter plumage is paler than summer Juveniles have white spotted breasts
