A small bird with a black cap, black bib, white cheeks and a short bill
Pale grey upperparts, grayish-white underparts
Wings edged with white
Often in small flocks

Length 5 - 6 inches, wingspan 6 - 8 inches

Weight
9 - 14 grams, 0.33 - 0.49 ounces

Habitat
Deciduous and mixed forests, open woodlands, suburban gardens, especially in winter

Nest
Usually makes its own nest in a rotting stump or tree, made of vegetation, feathers, moss, hair

Eggs
6 - 8 white eggs speckled with brown, incubation 11 - 13, fledge in 14 - 18 days

Food
A wide variety of insects berries and seeds. Happily feeds from feeders year round and especially in winter. Loves black oil seed sunflower

Voice

The best known call "chick-a-dee-dee" from whence it gets it's name, and the soothing whistled call ?fee-bee-bee"
