Perching Ring - A Grand Design

On the 02-01-2007 Trevor Harding from Leechburg, PA wrote to us:

I recently needed to upgrade my seed feeder to cope with the large volume of bird visitors to my very small garden. I decided on one of the 4 port CJWildlife feeders with the new perching ring design and was very pleased when it arrived the following day.

I went outside and replaced the old feeder for the new with a fresh supply of sunflower hearts. Knowing that wild birds can often be wary of new feeders I returned to the house in the knowledge that it may take some time before our feathered chums took to their new feeding station.

I returned the bag of seed to the cupboard and looked out of the window in astonishment as a Northern Cardinal flew straight down onto one of the perching rings closely followed by another. I continued to watch them feed and was thunderstruck when an American Robin hopped on to feed as well, this is one bird that never visited any of my previous feeders and all this within a couple of minutes of hanging the feeder up!

Further observation over the next half hour led to visits from Nuthatches and Goldfinches and likewise no hesitation was shown in landing on the rings. The birds obviously sense comfort & security allowing them to feed at ease, they also stay perched on the feeder for much longer periods than a standard straight perch.

I can only deduce that the new perching rings are a grand design...... thumbs up from me!
