Water Baths
Small backyard birds, whose diet consists mainly of seeds, are in most
need of fresh drinking water as it is not naturally present in their
diet. It is therefore beneficial to equip your backyard with a bird bath
or pond.
Bathing plays a vital role in feather maintenance and a good bird
bath needs to have sloping sides and a rough surface allowing a safe
grip. As birds are at their most vulnerable to predators when bathing,
situate your bird bath at least two metres (six feet) from cover to
help them avoid attack.
Your bird bath should be cleaned regularly with a diluted, non-toxic
disinfectant and rinsed thoroughly to remove algae and droppings.
